It is with much pleasure that this year we award the Editors’ Medal to product designer Adam Goodrum. It has been a fast and furious year for Goodrum and he has received a swag of accolades from many quarters that attest to his extraordinary talent. We too recognise his oeuvre, his role as mentor and teacher and the significant contribution that he has made over the years and, in particular this year, to Australian design.
Since winning the Bombay Sapphire Award in 2004, Goodrum has moved onward and upward, always pushing the boundaries of his design prowess. He has collaborated on multiple furniture pieces and ranges with such names as Cappellini, Normann Copenhagen, Poltrona Frau and Wallpaper and closer to home CULT, Tait, Dessein and the bespoke collective Broached Commissions. He has collaborated with Veuve Clicquot and was named the winner of the Rigg Design Prize for 2015.
So this is a year to reflect on a body of work that fulfils the promise of design ingenuity and innovation, and to gather the strength to do it all again next year! Congratulations Adam on a year of remarkable product design and for embracing and extrapolating your talent beyond traditional limits, and thank you for your contribution to Australian design.
