Radically defying the competition brief, Studio505 proposed the mandatory inclusion of the proximal canal be allowed a deep penetration into the space. This single gesture created an internalised yet outdoor courtyard space sheltered from busy roads, allowing a children’s playground, an amphitheatre and access to all parts of the centre.
