Balancing the requirements of a global airline brand with sensitivity for local design cues, the new Qantas Lounge in Singapore International Airport exceeds expectations of the typical airport lounge. A collaborative project from Sydney studios Sumu Design and Caon Studio with Singapore-based PDM International, the space has much in common with a hospitality fitout. The bustle of the outdoor hawker market has inspired the dining zone, which features live cooking and communal dining. Tiles mark out street-style routes through the space and demarcate different seating areas. Plants, bamboo screens and tiles in the reception area give a nod to Singaporean culture.
