The Old Library

Hecker Guthrie

Originally a Methodist church built circa 1908 and later a library during the 1970s, The Old Library was designed in harmony with its seaside location through conserving its existing exposed beams and timber lining. A sense of intimacy permeates this voluminous site, created by the generation of a series of inviting spaces within spaces. What results is a crisp, domestic-like interior, dotted with custom furniture and subtle library references.
