The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne – IDEA 2020

The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne

The Royal Children’s Hospital reflects changing healthcare practices, community aspirations and environmental responsibility. The therapeutic benefits of nature in healing underpin the overall design, reflecting the natural textures and forms of the surrounding Royal Park. Colours derived from the environment define each level, from signage through to graphics, paint, joinery, furniture and soft furnishings. Considered detailing invites human touch, acknowledges the child and provides a safe environment while also de-institutionalising the notion of the hospital.
