Yuta Badayala [in a new light] is a light pendant produced by Koskela and Yolngu weavers from Elcho Island Arts. The weaving primarily uses pandanus and bush string, collected by the artists and then dyed using roots and leaves. Due to the time and labour intensity of the process, designs are viewed and marketed as ‘art products’. A frame is supplied to the artists for some standardisation of form but the end product relies solely on their interpretation. Each light is unique and is filled with its maker.
