Fundamental to the design of Uspa was the use of organic materials in an environmentally sustainable way. Existing building materials were recycled where possible, while locally sourced natural materials were used when additions were necessary. FSC certified timber and recycled tallowwood are used, and only natural oil finishes are used on the timber surfaces. Rainwater is collected in a 4,000L tank for use in the bathroom, and a solar pump generates hot water and circulates it around the building.
