Decontra Residence

Decontra is a classic courtyard house where monolithic architectural forms are composed and occasionally sliced open to filter any available natural light. Decontra expresses its construction and celebrates its purpose. Architecturally it is a raw, earthy building⎯responsive to climate, site and brief. Custom coloured rammed earth is the primary construction material and the design’s foundation. Its high thermal mass provides passive moderation of the building’s internal temperature. The rawness and brutality of rammed earth is countered by the rich warmth of grey ironbark and dry-stacked Hornsfeld stone.
