Christian Residence

The feature of the heritage Federation dwelling’s part demolition, part addition is the insertion of two cantilevered plates (floor and ceiling canopies) deep into the ‘square tube’ of the main living pavilion. The ‘tube’ neatly frames the Federation building at the north, while the ‘plates’ cantilever out into the garden at the south, extending the living room and integrating the exterior. The height of the canopies, which appear to hover free of the tube, and the irregular ceiling material add to the cathedral-like quality of the space.
