The project incorporated a studio residence and flexible venue space into a 1930s building. Openings in the western wall flood the space with natural light, while existing light wells to the east were transformed into terraces with views to the laneway activity below. A series of robust, yet finely detailed, interior fixtures divide the space into a sequence of “rooms” that can be reconfigured but avoid feeling temporary. Pieces of furniture in acidic colours are a counterpoint to the subdued base palette of white, charcoal, olive and timber, as well as the solid, genuine organic materials of timber, stone, copper and leather.
