Shell

Shell is a family of two stools and a dining chair that are produced in both stainless steel and aluminium. Initial impressions are of solid, cast pieces, but closer examination reveals that they are hollow, lightweight structures that are capable of carrying heavy loads. They are inventively produced using sheet metal techniques common to the manufacture of commercial and industrial products. The geometric forms owe more to architectural principles of load distribution than to aesthetic decisions, and are easily produced by laser cutting, bending and welding. Shell is intended as an end piece with a significant origin and process of construction.
