The annual Saturday in Design trade event took place in Melbourne in 2008. Hassell designed Schiavello’s installation, which showcased their new powder coat colour range, along with systems and hospitality furniture. Maurice Sendak’s illustrations for the classic children’s book, Where the Wild Things Are provided the inspiration. The metaphor of a jungle was used to create four different zones displaying workstations, hub, lounge and meeting room furniture. ‘Trees’ and ‘vines’ were strategically placed to divide up the space and obscure view lines, heightening the sense of mystery. A giant plywood monster greeted visitors on entry, signaling the journey of discovery’s commencement.
