The new office space of worldwide engineering firm HATCH is in the historic Petrie Barracks building and a new separate four-level building, and the design responds to both the heritage and the modern. It provides diverse and adaptable arrangements for how and where staff interact and work. The articulated central nodes define zones, creating social and working neighbourhoods, within the large floor plates. Circulation, daylight penetration and noise level confirmed the hierarchy and adjacency of spaces from this central node. The hubs are a collaborative heart connecting the workspace both horizontally and vertically through the use of internal voids and external stairs.
