Loreto Archives Centre – IDEA 2020

Loreto Archives Centre

The restoration and remodelling of a 1908 Federation classroom building into a gallery space involved the demolition of a 1960s extension to reveal the original structure. Exposure of joints, screws and rivets in various spaces is a device that builds visitor intrigue – a visual representation of how these spaces were built. Now housing the Loreto Australia and South East Asia collection, double glazing and filtered glass maximise natural light, while protecting artefacts on display.
