Breathe Architecture, Into the Woods

Located on a treed, sloping site, this house for two artists takes the form of three ‘fallen trees’ laid together on the forest floor. Each of the ‘trees’ meets a functional requirement, comprising lower living quarters; upper bedrooms and studios; and a central, circulation spine. A simple, robust series of spaces are imperfect in finish, but offer intrigue and delight. The project explores the ‘de-materialisation’ of structures – building only what is needed, rather what is expected.
