Positioned in Melbourne’s Domain precinct, South Yarra Residence meshes the character-filled architecture of the original 1929 building with the crisp detailing of a modern addition. A simple palette of materials – cement, timber, steel, aluminium, glass – alludes to the simplicity of form and function reminiscent of the forms and lines of houses built in 1960s Australia. The client’s collection of 20th century design furniture punctuates the spaces, while paintings are hung on the walls at key vistas.
