A budget project addressing the delicate balance of heritage conservation versus contemporary city living, this home sits on a row of single-storey, heritage-listed Federation terraces in Surry Hills. The building’s modesty is cleverly honoured. Original walls remain, with plasterwork removed to expose unruly brickwork. Living spaces pinwheel off from the kitchen and new stairs connect to the attic, where bedrooms and a bathroom are located in the pre-existing 1970s space.
