UWS Climate Change and Energy Research Facility

An existing 1930s building has been retrofitted, with 90 percent of the existing structure retained. Fa├žade shading systems reduce heat impact on western glazing, while natural light is maximised through existing openings and a new two-storey atrium. A cooling labyrinth system is used in conjunction with thermal chimneys and automated windows for natural ventilation. The building can be used in mixed modes, with a building management system to monitor use. Rainwater is collected and reused for irrigation.
