Schiavello Spring Racing Carnival Marquee 2009

The striking installation explores the inner monologue and emotion that occur between buying a ticket and your horse crossing the finishing line. The plywood interior contrasts the black graphics, and the ply appears to peel away, as though pulled by the increasing energy of excited race-goers. The predominantly black and white palette references the text of the racing world, and the netted ceiling captures forgotten tickets, creating a seeming cloud overhead. The nodes on the marquee’s exterior represent Schiavello’s logo and brand, morphing its identity into the surface.
