Santa Maria College Mercy Building

Edgar Idle Wade Architects

The new Mercy Building at Santa Maria College combines the renovation of a drab 1950s building and a new four-storey building. With eighteen class spaces (including specialist food technology and science labs), a cafeteria, staff facilities and a learning and resource centre, the interior design required the acknowledgement of the complex range of users. Student input led to a youthful, colourful and extroverted design, suitable to 21st-century learning, while a corporate lounge feel was applied to the new staff areas. Modular, transportable furniture enables the reconfiguration of spaces.
