George Street Residence

Nest Architects

The George Street Residence is built above a cellar, which is ventilated using passive airflow to provide natural cooling to the fridge. The upper floor sits away from the timber façade, allowing warm air to escape from the house. Concrete slab flooring regulates heat loss, while Low E glass minimises solar gain and glare in the summer, and reduces heat loss in winter. External cladding was sourced from sustainably managed forests, while recycled Tallowwood is used for flooring. Water tanks serve the bathroom cisterns and garden.
