The project incorporated a studio residence and flexible venue space into a 1930s building. Openings in the western wall flood the space with light, while existing light wells to the east were transformed into terraces with views to the laneway activity below. A series of robust, yet finely detailed, interior fixtures divide the space into a sequence of “rooms” that can be reconfigured but avoid feeling temporary. Pieces of furniture in acidic colours are a counterpoint to the subdued base palette of white, charcoal, olive and timber as well as the solid, genuine organic materials of timber, stone, copper and leather.
