Joe Black the Tailor

Joe Black the Tailor provides a modern interpretation of the traditional tailoring environment, with subtle references to gentry and sport. A very bespoke feel is achieved through a collection of found objects by collaborator Suzie Stanford, ranging from furniture upholstered in cycling jerseys, stools covered in hessian sacks to an array of hooks and drawers. Playful aspects negate the serious, with furniture upholstered in jockey’s silks and the addition of accessories such as leather saddles, vintage toys, gentlemen’s magazines and racing imagery, all with a 60s or 70s overtone. Allusions to tailoring occur throughout the store, including the dressing room curtains, which are made from a patchwork of men’s suits.
