Bellevue Hill House

A home that was essentially one space for a family with fond memories of another culture formed a strong generating diagram for the design. The primary ambition for the project is the creation of open, centralised living space. The notion of building with something found is expressed through the solidity and permanence of concrete platforms and hollows and a fireplace. A single roof plane expresses an elemental form of shelter, and strikes a counterpoint to the lay of the land and the stepping of the concrete terrain. The house uses principles of cross-ventilation and the thermal mass of concrete, tempered by in-slab, gas hydronic heating.
