Tattoo House

Andrew Maynard Architects

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The key tactic in Tattoo House – multiple functions. Hence the kitchen bench becomes part of the stair and the deck becomes the wall and roof. The negative impact of large south facing windows is reduced with horizontal slot windows on the northern façade to permit winter sun and the use of high R value insulation. Commercial stickers reduce glare through the first floor windows and the supergraphic of images of the Edinburgh Gardens beneath creates ever-changing shadows across the interior spaces.
