The Army’s new office was to reflect their position as a Steward to the Earth. An economy cycle was added to the air-conditioning, and zoned, energy efficient light-fittings, energy efficient appliances and water efficient fittings were used. Modular joinery and mobile storage units were employed. Materials were assessed against their life cycle, and low voc paint and adhesives and low or zero formaldehyde emitting MDF were used. During construction, 90% recycling was achieved. A cultural shift located staff on the perimeter in an open plan design, and a forest is recreated using images of the Otways.
