What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
No5 explores what happens when an in-depth engineering knowledge of materials and manufacturing technology meets with artistic creativity. This project is a continuation of creative developments with CNC foam-cutting technology. No5’s combination of deep curves, sloping faces, tapering sides and softly rounded corners creates an inviting new form. It is cut in one piece from solid foam with very little wastage, and requires no tooling investment for foam-moulding. Engage a single curvature plywood shell, employ CNC foam-cutting technology, add ease of fabrication plus efficient use of materials, and the result is a beautiful chair – unique, practical and cost-effective.
