The residence on this spectacular site at Dover Heights inverts the traditional planning arrangement, with living spaces on the top floor, to exploit the views and natural light, and the bedrooms below. The primary architectural idea was to create a series of strong horizontal planes which are cantilevered to provide sun protection. Viewed from the west the house appears as an understated linear structure with a roof that seems to float above the body of the house, owing to a band of glazing around the top of the walls. Internally, materials such as basalt floors, timber and plaster walls provide restrained character.
