Cliffbrook House sits on a superb cliff-top site overlooking Gordons Bay. The alterations and additions to the formerly dilapidated house centred around the location and the need for sensitivity towards the environment and context. The materiality and detailing asserts the home’s presence modestly through the use of a subtle palette that references the coastal environment, without using artificial tones that would attempt to compete with the brilliant colour of the bay and the sandstone cliffs. The internal materials are raw and exposed, appropriate to the site’s constant slow erosion suggesting an unpolished aesthetic.
