A new 13-level tower stands over the reinvigorated hotel that provides student accommodation. The architectural dialogue between the two elements is explicit and publicly engaging. The entry to the building is marked by a dark fissure seemingly carved between the new and existing structures. Striped motives extend from the balconies to the lift interior, laundry and lecture theatre spaces, which are conceived as the social hearts of the building. Rubber-wrapped surfaces, laser-cut Perspex and amorphous furniture are points of interest.
