The core driver in the extension of the heritage cottage in the small envelope was sustainability in a ‘green’ and lifestyle sense, and the fittings, lighting, materials and water storage comply. Beautiful and subtle, the extension is virtually undetectable from the street, but unfolds as soon as you step inside. The new glass “treehouse” allows for natural ventilation and cooling, and the spatial volume opens up to the outdoor area, extending the internal living area beyond the glass facade. The master bedroom floats within this glass void, yet remains private, as do the other bedrooms within the existing cottage front.
