What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The big “IDEA” of this project was to create a playful mix of modern and classical elements to form the basis of this contemporary-eclectic apartment. Classical elements such as the metallic shades on the chandelier, ebonized treatment of wood on the turned chair legs and crocodile imprinted leather upholstery on a 17th century Louis chair were selected for their modern embellishments. Decorative pieces were kept pure, maintaining a contemporary twist by use of simple shapes and streamlined patterns.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The client’s brief was for a practical yet glamorous design that would also allow him the space for frequent entertaining. Although there were some space limitations the aim was to maximize the use of the internal rooms by selecting a monochromatic colour pallet to compliment the classic modern furniture. To obtain a sense of openness and dimension in the rooms, the colour white was used throughout on walls and ceilings and high gloss paint was applied to paneled doors, architraves and skirtings. Porcelain Tiles were laid throughout and for a dramatic touch a black and white striped carpet was used in the bedroom.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The big idea around this project was to create an opulent space that optimised the panoramic harbor views. Through an analysis of the existing conditions and selective editing of the area, the original layout of the apartment was totally reworked. Using texture and contrast we included silver leaf lined ceilings, linen fabric paneled walls and custom American walnut joinery. Gold linen woven curtains, full mirrored walls and an opulent ‘Starck’ dining pendant complimented the client’s existing possessions and style to complete this major renovation.
