Dramatic spaces that made you go WOW! Our international clients loved the location and the floor plan and that was about all. We changed everything, transforming the house from a Mediterranean ‘villa’ to a contemporary, ultra modern home, creating water features and ponds wherever possible. Each bathroom uses strong, dark tiling on walls and floors. Bold statements every step of the way.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The brief was to create a beach house that was light and fresh, whilst paying homage to the raw and unspoilt landscape of the area. Generously wide blackbutt floorboards and hardwood panelled walls are complemented by the dramatic Ghost Story light fittings by Geoffrey Mance, making reference to the scrubby native woodland. A palette of eucalypt green, black and warm ochres gives a modern touch to the interior while denoting the surrounding coastal environs.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
To create dramatic interiors featuring natural architectural elements, following environmentally sustainable objectives. The ambience of a luxury seaside retreat begins with the grand entry foyer, dominated by the staircase sitting on its own black ice marble plinth, added to by two sundecks, a pool and lush tropical landscaping. The long gallery ground floor defines formal and informal zones of dining and living, flowing onto a huge patio. Natural materials (timber, marble and stone), natural light and ventilation are significant features.
