What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The penthouse was to provide a calm and elegant pied-à-terre for entertaining. The purchase of a 1940s drinks cabinet from Great Dane Design, with the understated elegance of the turned timber cabinet, placed within a modern, Scandinavian aesthetic provided the idea that was to imbue the rest of the space. Furniture was designed by me or chosen for sculptural form. The accent colour of green was inspired by the extensive views of Elizabeth Bay.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
An open plan permits enjoyment of the space and maximises water views. The north-south entry axis has been cleared from structure, allowing a framed perspective. The L-shaped arrival hall frames views of the West Gate Bridge and Port Phillip Bay. The apartment appears wrapped in a shroud of warm burnt brown Ebano stone, providing a subdued backdrop to the brilliance of the view.
