What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
To create an interior that referenced the religious culture of the school in a subtle way. The client required a multifunctional space for use as an IT classroom, library, reading recovery and learning centre. We were influenced by John Hejduk whose works feature allegorical architectural studies, including a range of basic geometric shapes and biomorphic members.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The room provides a place to gather, work in groups and interact in a self-directed learning environment. It reflects the connection between social networking and peer learning as a way of preparing students for academic life. The Learning Centre is placed at the confluence of the main circulation route of the Hawken Building and now opens up views through previously enclosed tutorial rooms.
