What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The contemporary, warm and textual space was zoned through use of architectural repetitive timber beam and column elements to bring interest to the open concrete space and to break up the space more intimately. The patterns of timber screen, inspired by those of the eighteenth century, are carried through in bronze fret cut screens and the carpet. The outdoor terrace reflects the internal aesthetic.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
Identified as a ‘hybrid bar’ catering to all needs, Taste is at once a café, bakery, bar, coffeehouse, takeaway joint, fine food restaurant, dining hall, cocktail lounge, function venue, outdoor deck or, quite simply, a place to sit. Taste occupies the street tenancy of a recent commercial tower with an aesthetic that is simple and clean. Reclaimed timber, wrought iron, antique and ornate fixtures and fittings are used throughout the space.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
A fresh, contemporary approach to interiors in a tropical environment responding to the climate and culture of the region. A refined, contemporary aesthetic has effectively been translated to achieve the brief for international sophistication. Paramount to the planning and design philosophy was a seamless effect to indoor and outdoor living where apartments combine luxury and modern technology using local materials.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
Pendolino (an olive variety found in Italy) is a beautifully versatile Italian restaurant, café, wine bar and olive oil library. It creates a meaningful experience for the visitor by engaging the senses on a number of emotional levels, while still addressing aesthetics and functionality. A sense of history and memories of travel to Italy are evoked. The concept is reverent to a dimly lit Veronese wine cellar, made from heavy blackened steel metalwork and stacked with wine and olive oil bottles.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
To refurbish a new bistro, Lucido, with a flexible, open layout, to include a coffee lounge, restaurant, pizza and grill, dance floor and stage. The use of graphics at back of bar, a giant curved bulkhead and the simplicity of a stone bar front, tie the three facets of Lucido together. Illuminated lightbox canopies, ceiling baffles and pendant lights denote different zones. Acrylic, glass, stone and custom stainless steel fittings achieve layering and depth. An illuminated balustrade is the invisible shopfront.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The brief was to capture the existing warm and inviting atmosphere of the renowned restaurant, while bringing a new and exciting direction to the interior. A worn authenticity is achieved downstairs through locally sourced recycled messmate in wall panels and table tops teamed with Joost pendants made from recycled fencing wire. Black vinyl flooring and black flocked acoustic ceiling panels throughout add drama and intrigue. Upstairs the black theme is complemented by antler chandeliers and quirky cowhide wallpaper from Elitis in France.
