What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The intention was to design a number of low sculptural tables appearing deceptively haphazard in construction. Random organic shapes were mapped with reference points and converted as DXF files, computerised-cut in glass then painted green, black, red or white. The tapering legs were lathed in solid Australian hardwood, then stained and clear lacquered. The Spinneys are flat packed with the legs being simply screwed on then tightened, with no need for tools or adhesives.

The Sign Stool 450 is constructed from reused road signs; its rubber feet and rivets are the only new materials used in its manufacture. The road signs used in the Sign Stool 450 come with the characteristics of their previous life by the roadside, including colourful vinyl labels. This version of the Sign Stool was developed for manufacture on a larger scale than the previous incarnation, aiming to make this brand of sustainable design accessible to a larger audience.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
The Victorian Cultural Network needed mobile internet access points for the foyers of Victoria’s leading cultural institutions. We developed furniture and communication modules to be like game pieces, each with its own function and character. Seating design stresses the significance of a comfortable viewing place. The large display screen appears wafer thin, reducing its solidity and emphasising its digital function. All the site elements are connected by a central steel ‘rug’ or cable tray. The modular system allows for easy customisation and the design of the sheet steel technology nacelles provides quick, straightforward access to the hardware by service staff.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
No5 explores what happens when an in-depth engineering knowledge of materials and manufacturing technology meets with artistic creativity. This project is a continuation of creative developments with CNC foam-cutting technology. No5’s combination of deep curves, sloping faces, tapering sides and softly rounded corners creates an inviting new form. It is cut in one piece from solid foam with very little wastage, and requires no tooling investment for foam-moulding. Engage a single curvature plywood shell, employ CNC foam-cutting technology, add ease of fabrication plus efficient use of materials, and the result is a beautiful chair – unique, practical and cost-effective.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
Featuring a beautifully balanced cantilevering design, the Flynn tables are simple, refined and perfectly proportioned. Solid timber allows the tables to form a patina and grow in character. Jardan uses sustainable plantation timber and water-based glue/lacquer. Flynn tables are made to last a lifetime and can be reworked or repolished as necessary, whereas veneer tables may delaminate and can be damaged more easily. The Flynn range combines a timeless aesthetic with modern craftsmanship and environmental credentials.

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
To create a contemporary multi-purpose collection: bench seat, deck lounge and daybed, improving on comfort, airflow, ease of assembly, convertibility and storage.
The bench seat can be readily adjusted to different heights or inverted to become a planter box. The deck lounge comes in single or dual, and the daybed has an adjustable head rest. House of Bamboo pliable slatted timber screens draped over UV-stable foam-covered frames allow for user comfort and natural airflow. The screens are weatherproof, durable and reversible, and can be placed securely over a variety of frames. Both screens and light metal bases are easily carried.
