World War I witnessed remarkable advances in the development of aviation, and. this permanent exhibition tells the story of the bravery, ingenuity and contribution of Australia’s flying squadrons. The design features five original aircraft and dramatic light, sound and multimedia presentations, the result of a highly collaborative process, working with film director Peter Jackson and CGI studio Weta in Wellington. A large curved screen suspended over the space forms the viewing space and reinforces circulation through the space. The resulting screen format (3 x 22 metres) is three times the width of standard cinema and becomes a powerful and deeply moving multimedia event.
