The redevelopment of the Engineering Library into an innovative, adaptable Student Learning Centre (SLC) embraces the new Melbourne Model of teaching; facilitating collaborative learning while acting as a point for interaction and social activity. The library supports the learning processes of discovery and change, with two new adaptable classrooms as key attractors to the centre. The design draws inspiration from place students often study or hang out—kitchen table, library, cafes and bars. The interior is stripped back to its original envelope and linings, formed by the existing elegant heritage façade. The quirky and antiquated character has been retained and celebrated.
