The Longueville house interrogates the movement through and the experience of spatial environments, creating ambiguous space that is neither interior nor exterior. The journey of the house moves from the apparent single storey timber weatherboard cottage seen from the street, into a very modernist two-storey house beyond. The period appearance and feel was reinforced, while simultaneously integrating it gradually into the modern with the courtyard as a transitional space. In response to this philosophy, the structure was retained, and timbers, bricks and other materials were reused.
