University of Queensland Activity Centre

The building is clad entirely in re-dressed hardwood timber battens sourced from a local timber recycling firm. Being well seasoned, they have less warp and movement and should perform better in exposure to the elements. The battens, along with the louvers, also enable natural ventilation and a connection to the outside environment. The walls modulate the breeze allowing the fixed glass windows to frame views and openings. The interior is private and contemplative, balanced by the sense of connection with the landscape.
