Keilor Cemetery Chapel

What is the ‘big (IDEA)’ behind this project?
A community mausoleum in Melbourne’s western suburbs provides a series of interiors as a hierarchy of spaces, creating a haven within an urban environment. The use of colour, symbol and detail afford a degree of humanism to spaces characterised by concrete and stone. Five different colours of granite enhance the potential for choice. The black and white marble banding of the chapel’s memorial walls, inspired by the polychrome stone of Sienna Cathedral in Italy, is a defining detail.
